A FUNERAL MASS FOR VERA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong, IL. with Father Aloysius O. Ndeanaefo officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Marie, IL.

Vera Mae Kirts, 85, of Oblong, IL passed away on Friday February 12, 2016 at the Newton Care Center, Newton, IL.
Vera was born on March 7, 1930 in Newton, IL. She was the daughter of William O. “Bill” Jenkins and Mabel J. (Oliver) Jenkins. On August 21, 1954 she married the love of her life, Henry Fredrick Kirts and they were married for 61 years. He survives.
Vera was a Registered Nurse for many years. She worked as Director of Nursing at Newton Rest Haven in Newton, IL retiring in 1988 after working; there for 21 years. Vera also worked at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL and Weber Medical Clinic in Olney, IL. Vera was a member of the Newton High School Class of 1948 and a graduate of St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL in 1951. She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong, IL as well as a member of the Altar Society. Vera enjoyed camping, traveling, taking care of others, reading and especially enjoyed dancing. She and Fred attended dances all over the area.
Vera is survived by her husband Henry Fred Kirts, Oblong, IL; a son and daughter-in-law Mark and Tammy Kirts, Lafayette, TN; a daughter Ann Kirts, Oblong, IL; granddaughter Amy and David Daughtry Portland, TN, grandson Matthew and Nicole Kirts, Murfreesboro, TN and grandson Joshua and Casey Kirts, Benton, KY; two great-granddaughters Emma Daughtry and Renley Kirts; two great-grandsons Blake Daughtry and Elijah Kirts; a brother and sister-in-law William “Bill” and Carol Jenkins, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Leonard Sanders, Flat Rock, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Vera in death were her parents; an infant daughter Amy Jean Kirts; a son Michael Joseph “Mike” Kirts; a sister Rose Mary “Rosie” Whightsel and several aunt, uncles and cousins..
